Well done Windie.
ReplyDeleteI like how you used the webquest. You can really get around and see where your students are with the content. Webquest are also very useful for spending time with your students one on one.

I love the way you set up your presentation! I wish I had tried out WIX! I absolutely loved the section on tests and the many ways students could take them. From using only one computer to using the netbooks. I like when you said "BYOD environments are great for formative assessments. If the assessment system accepts data from web based or SMS than any student with either a tablet, laptop or phone can provide answers for the assessment. BYOD tests should be designed to accept simple single answers such as multiple choice or true false" (Freeman. 2013.). I was thinking that students bringing their own device to test would just be a bad idea all around, but you made me realize that it's easily attainable. Great job!!
ReplyDeleteUsing the main computer as an enrichment activity is a good idea. As you explained, there are ways to include a single computer into the lesson, but most of the time it is best served as enrichment.
ReplyDeleteIn response to your gaming activity for a computer lab experience offering the best best. I have to disagree. I use Kerbal Space Program with my Astronomy students, and the computer lab does not run the game very well, because the dependencies are often outdated. In this case, the best experience is the BYOD option. Again, it requires careful planning and testing to ensure the activity goes as planned.
Windie, you do such nice presentations. I love the idea of doing a website for this project, it's a perfect tool for this job! It is unfortunate that a single computer classroom has to use the computer for enrichment only, but that is a good compromise. I am beginning to see that 1-1 and BYOD programs are going to be essential in the future.
ReplyDeleteNicely done and I love that you used a website creation tool to display your work. It is so great and I think by modeling it this way you will encourage your peers to try using it sometime. I think wix and weebly are both great and easy tools to create beautiful websites. Clever. Also, I do think the one computer classroom is so difficult for many reasons and I do think it is fine to challenge students or offer an enriching opportunity for them. Good thinking about the bandwith. Super slow at times and can disable the entire network if they are not careful. It is so important to be sure the whole class is not on video or other streaming sites that would use up bandwidth. One computer classrooms could be best served by a student taking notes for the class and posting them to your class site, such as edmodo or wix.
